We have an actual game! It’s been an awesome weekend of hard work and some low-key shenanigans to boot. You can read our post of thanks to catch a glimpse of everyone who helped out with the first ever Rusty Mothertrucker Game Jam.
But the main reason you’re here is to see, here and play our creation.
So without further ado, here is the game as it stands on Monday night, after 3 days of continuous effort.
Monday 9pm (Sydney time) It’s been an intense few days, going from our final theme vote all the way to a playable game since Friday at midnight. There’s been a huge amount of work go into this whole project and we are so thankful to everyone who participated. From suggesting theme ideas, to voting, to pitching in and helping with parts of the game, there are so many people we couldn’t have done this without.
Sunday 8pm (Sydney Time) It was another huge day of effort from the team, with some real highs and lows. Overall the progress has been really impressive, but there were a few setbacks. Not least of which was Emurga’s Blender crash and loss of most of a day’s work. Poor guy took it in stride, had some rest and got straight back into it. Amazing resilience and effort.
Jase and Graham both spent the day fleshing out their level creations and drawing elements together to be interactive and playable.
Saturday 8pm (Sydney Time) Well we’re underway with the serious part of the Game Jam now. Our theme was decided in the final voting rounds last night and the team took the night to think on it before convening this morning for a brainstorming session.
After a bit of discussion around how the concept of Unknown Language can work, we started to zero in on an idea. Like many people, our first thoughts were of a dynamic similar to No Man’s Sky where a player would have to uncover additional pieces of a language as they explore, to make the unknown, known.
Theme Winner Announcement Huge thanks to everyone who voted in our final rounds of polls to determine our theme winner for the first ever Rusty Mothertrucker Game Jam.
After four rounds of voting and all votes tallied up our winning theme is Unknown Language!
We’ll be continuing from Saturday morning with a brainstorming session before we jump into active development of our new game.
Here’s a complete breakdown of how the voting went for each of the rounds:
It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for! (Well the moment the Rusty Mothertruckers have been waiting for) Tonight’s the night for our final round of voting for the theme that will be in play for the FIRST EVER Rusty Mothertrucker Game Jam!
The Final Theme Shortlist These are the themes that have made it through our first two rounds of voting and are now our final shortlist:
Unknown Language Stellar Journey Jased Unbridled Darkness Unicorns Vote live for the final theme Voting will be held during the normal Rusty Mothertrucker Friday night game stream.
Round 2 Has Finished Thanks to all who joined us on stream last night to vote in Round 2 of our theme selection process! A lot of fun was had, a few arguments over the merits of various themes, and one or two folks bankrupting their channel points later, and we have our winners!
The Final Theme Shortlist The themes that have made it through to our final round of voting are:
We had a great time last Friday night running multiple polls across our Twitch Stream as we completed our first round of voting. It was a great success and we managed to get through 10(!) polls in the night, taking our total number of themes from 46 at the start of the night to 10 semi-finalists.
Round 1 Voting Results There were some great tactics employed by various voters making use of channel points and bits to ensure favourite themes made it through to the next round.
Look, every game jam has to have at least some rules, otherwise it’s just chaos out there, and the Rusty Anarchist Game Jam is on a different weekend. So here are a few rules and regulations we are going to abide by, unless we decide not to.
Rules Rules are defined as things we must adhere to in order to declare victory in our game jam attempt. If we fail to meet these conditions then we will have failed at jamming this game.
Themes, Polls, and Voting We will be conducting a series of polls on stream at over the coming weeks to determine the final theme for the Game Jam. There will be three rounds of polling, with the first two rounds containing multiple polls.
Before polls commence we invite stream followers to submit theme ideas via chat on our Twitch channel, or via the form on our site. A theme can be broad, or specific, but should avoid being a description of a particular function or mechanic.
